Media Spot-Lite: Celebrity WorkOut Videos
Motivating yourself to get that booty to the gym is somehow so much harder when it’s cold out. Speak for yourself, right Hangry? Well, fine. Leaving my house in general is a struggle during these long winter months, let alone to go join a Zumba class when I’m already in hibernation mode.
So, I’ve been doing home work-out videos from the 80s that my mother taped…in the 80s. It’s a glamorous life, let me tell you. In the comforts of your own living room, you too can be screamed at by an Israeli drill sergeant doing crunches on the beach of a lush Hawaii paradise!
But, the Jane Fonda commercials during this elegant work-out VHS got me to thinking about the celebrity fitness tape craze that used to envelope our nation. And then dear reader Norma posted a link to one of the most hilarious pieces I have read in a long time: 4 Celebrity Workout Videos That Should Not Have Been. Featuring LaToya Jackson steppin’ it out, Bonnie Franklin (who?) tap dancing her heart out, Sandy Duncan (again, who?) taking a 5 minute workout and turning it into a 60 minute one, and Zsa Zsa Gabor sexin’ it up for the cameras while surrounded by two ludicrous Frenchmen in leotards, the article is a virtual cornucopia of celebrity ludicrousness.
A “private lesson” with the legendary Chuck Norris? Check.
The “Girls Next Door” teach you how to work out your arm muscles by giving a handjob to an 85 year old? Check.
Kim Kardashian’s…gah, why am I at all surprised? Of course this media ho has a workout video, along with every other kind of video known to man.
Seriously, almost any celebrity that you want to look like–and even many that you don’t–have a video that will instruct you on “how to do so.” But who are we kidding? Do I look like a brawny Israeli fitness instructor with an 18-pack (that picture is not actually of my physical leader, but it’s as close as I could find)? Allow me to answer that: no, I do not. But his workouts get my body moving, heart pumping, thighs jiggling…and that’s just what I want and need.
